Hello everyone and greetings from Thailand. I am having a great time here and will soon be leaving for Austrailia. In honour of that I have put together a list of the top 10 things you should do in Thailand.
1. The elephant experience
Elephants’ welfare is at the core of Thailand people. Encounter with elephants in Thailand is priceless. The elephant is seen as a symbol of national unity is held in awe. Activities such as elephant washing, feeding and riding are thrilling. Elephants have a mahout (personal human attendant) that take care of them for a lifetime.
2. Hill tribe villages.
These tribes are; Akha, Hmony, Karen and Lisu. Their culture, language, arts and traditions are unparalleled. They live in traditional wooden huts with unique cooking paraphernalia. They adore themselves with kaleidoscopic-coloured clothes and accessories. Activities such as elephant trekking, white water rafting and a night stay at the village make the experience a must-have.
3. Floating markets.
These are a must-see. The floating rickety wooden boats loaded with colourful local produce for trade make a spectacular, unparalleled experience. These markets avail unique souvenirs, eccentric garments and mouth-watering traditional Thai food. Such markets include Damnoen, Amphawa and Khlong Lat Mnyom.
Thailand is characterised by some of the most fascinating Buddhist temples in the world. The temples have gold-tipped peaks, with curved religious personalities and mosaic details. The temples signify the people’s way of life, monks’ way of life (dressing in orange robes, for example) and Buddhist history. They include The Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat Pho.
5. Traditional Thailand food.
Thailand food is simply tantalising. Ranges from the delicious Pad Thai to fragrant coconut curry, taste soup of noodles and fresh marinated fish. You cannot possibly miss out on this experience. The food is aromatic, sophisticated, fresh and diverse.
6. The golden triangle.
This is the point at which Mekon River joins Ruak River. It’s a site to behold and a first-hand experience is paramount for one to really appreciate the beauty of this site. Locals refer to it as Sop Ruak, however internationally it’s referred to as the Golden Triangle.
7. Island hopping.
The scenic islands are an overwhelming and marvellous site. Activities such as swimming, sunbathing, diving, trekking, wildlife watching, volunteering or just relaxing will leave you reborn and rejuvenated as you leave the islands. Attending the Full Moon party in Koh Pha Ngan would be incredible too.
8. Shopping experience.
Shop in street stalls, markets and malls for an incredible experience. Markets such as Chatuchak (JJ Mall), Asiatique Night Market and Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, will provide you with the shopping experience of your entire lifetime. Unique products such as wooden carvings, silverware, silks and pottery are in plenty.
Here you get to interact and be one with the accommodative locals and get to learn about their rich cultural and customary practices. They include Loi Krathog-held every November, Songkran- New Year water festivals.
10. Ancient ruins and National Parks.
Phnom Runy Historical Park houses Ancient Khmer ruins that are amazing to take in. National parks such as Doi Inthanon, Khao Yoi, Sai Yok and Khao Sok, boast of diverse and unique wildlife that provide a lifetime experience. If you visit Thailand and fail to visit the sites and enjoy these experiences then you fail to experience life at its best.
